Gardeners World episode 9 2018

 

In Gardeners World 2018 episode 9, Monty elevates his cottage garden borders this week by adding plants to give height and drama, and rejuvenates the design of the grass borders by adding evergreen plants grown from cuttings.

Carol Klein’s plant of the season is the delicate but easy to grow dog’s tooth violet, Joe Swift travels to the Trelissick garden in Cornwall to meet a very special garden volunteer, and Adam Frost returns to Leicestershire to monitor the progress of the new-build garden. We also meet a woman who grows a national collection of polemoniums in her back garden, and we reveal the garden of the fourth finalist in our Every Space Counts competition.

Frances Tophill is growing vegetables this year on an allotment and this week she begins to prepare her plot and, if your shed is chock full of out-of-date seeds, old compost, dirty pots and rusty tools, Nick Bailey has lots of hints and tips on how to get everything shipshape for the season ahead. Adam Frost explores a tropical garden in Dorset and meets a man who is passionate about growing unusual and exotic plants from seed, we travel to Suffolk to meet a woman who collects and grows a wide range of bellflowers and Carol Klein profiles the best of the season’s flowers – this week it is the camellia.

Centre Val de Loire : les jardins du Grand Courtoiseau

A proximité de Château Renard dans le Loiret se dresse le manoir Grand Courtoiseau. Animé par ses deux créateurs, Jean-Hervé Dussordet et Guy Herdhebaut, c’est un magnifique lieu de promenade et de découverte au centre du Loiret.

Ce manoir du XVIIème siècle est agrémenté de jardins contemporains, fruits de l’imagination des actuels propriétaires. Le bruit de l’eau et le parfum des fleurs vous accompagneront durant votre promenade. Vous découvrirez des roses anciennes dans le jardin du Faune, des arbustes de collection, le jardin des Antiques ou encore un jardin exotique…
Les jardins du Grand Courtoiseau se sont près de 6 ha de promenades, un beau prétexte pour se ballader.

Jardin de Normandie : La Ferme des Roches

 

La Ferme des Roches se situe dans le nord du Cotentin à Martinvast.
Ce jardin est aussi isolé qu’il est somptueux. Construit plante par plante avec un amour immodéré de la nature et du paysage, il est le paradis de sa propriétaire, Caroline St Clair et Saint “ST”, n’allez pas écrire son nom autrement.
Tout est orchestré avec brio, rien n’est laissé au hasard et l’impression de nature s’il elle est réelle est le fruit d’un travail quotidien. Pourtant elle n’impose pas, elle protège les faibles des forts, une Robine des Bois en quelque sorte.
Cette passion du jardin, elle la partage avec celle des chevaux, mais la lutte des territoires est farouche, et au final qui des chevaux ou du jardin gagnera sur l’espace vital de Caroline… à suivre.

Jardins de Normandie : le domaine Albizia

Avec Frédéric Tinard, vous entrez dans la nouvelle génération de jardiniers… musicien-paysagiste, geek-jardinier, allez savoir… cet esprit en perpétuel effervescence fourmille d’idées et de projets… Depuis que ce film a été tourné au printemps 2017, difficile d’imaginer comment il est aujourd’hui, tellement tout va vite avec Frédéric. Sa seule ligne de conduite, le beau et le plaisir d’accueillir et pour cela tous les moyens sont bons, associant les “trucs” à la mode, les nouvelles technologies (réalité augmentée), des pratiques culturales 0 phytos…

Une forte influence du merveilleux et du fantastique donnent à ce jardin une originalité particulière. Quand on sait que tout cela est associé à une recherche méticuleuse de techniques innovantes (fontaines programmables, virtualité augmentée… ), on peut s’attendre à vivre dans ce lieu des moments inoubliables, surtout lorsque des journées thématiques y sont organisées. Autre de ses talents, Frédéric est l’auteur de la musique de ce film… A coup sûr, on reviendra, merci Frédéric d’arriver à nous surprendre en permanence. Et, pour tous ceux qui imaginent encore le jardin comme un truc ringard de retraité, allez faire un tour au domaine Albizia

Une nouvelle promenade normande dans le Cotentin au Château de Carneville. Guillaume Garbe nous fait découvrir ce lieu étonnant, mais aussi le pari extraordinaire de redonner du lustre à ce lieu chargé d’histoire… De la préhistoire à nos jours, le site a toujours été occupé par l’homme. Anna Pavord – Her Passion for Plants

Anna Pavord is the gardening correspondent for the Independent and the author of eight books, including the bestselling The Tulip. She contributes to a number of magazines, both in the US and the UK and regularly fronts programmes for BBC Radio 3 and 4. She chairs the Gardens Panel of the National Trust and sits on the Parks and Gardens Panel of English Heritage.

She lives in Dorset, England, where she spent thirty years restoring the garden of an old rectory. She has recently moved to a new house and started another garden. She is married and has three daughters.
